Type every piece of work with its points and its category, and this sheet weights the categories into one mark and solves what the rest must carry

AThe categories, the work and the targets

Set how many categories you were given, label each one and type the weight that was written against it. Then set how many pieces of work you are typing, and for each one its own label, the category it sits in, its points possible and its points earned. Then type the targets you want to finish at. Every category, every weight, every score and every target is yours, and this page supplies none of them.

A label is all this page asks for, and one word is enough. It asks for no student name, no teacher, no school, no class, no course code, no student number, no date of birth and no date of any kind, and there is nowhere for any of that to go, because nothing you type is sent anywhere and nothing is stored in this browser.

If the only figures you have are one overall percentage so far and the share of the course that figure covers, type two categories. Give the first that share as its weight, with one piece of work whose points earned is your overall figure and whose points possible is 100. Give the second the rest of the weight you were given, with nothing typed against it. The sheet will then foot the first category and solve every target on the second, which is the whole of what those two figures can say.

BThe course, at a glance

Type every piece of work with its points earned, its points possible and the category it sits in, type the weight you were given against each category, and this page tells four things apart: each category's own percentage, taken as that category's points earned over that category's points possible and never as the average of its rows; the course mark so far, weighted by the weights you typed and divided by the weight actually present rather than by 100; the weight still outstanding, named as its own figure; and the percentage that outstanding weight must carry to land on each target you type.

Not every category carries marked work yet. Of the 100.0 weight points you typed, 50.0 are still outstanding and 50.0 stand behind the figures in this panel.

One piece of work carries a points possible figure with no score yet, so it enters no total and no category percentage moves for it.

The 4 things this page tells apart are set out in section F, and the course mark is held back while no weight is present, because a mark with no weight behind it has nothing to be divided by.

Turns the labels, the weights, the points and the targets you type into each category's own percentage, the course mark so far over the weight actually present, the weight still outstanding, and the percentage that outstanding weight must carry for each target.

This page supplies no grading scale. It prints no letter, no plus or minus band, no pass mark, no fail mark and no curve, and it presents no rounding convention as anybody's standard. It prints no grade point, no quality point, no credit, no credit hour and no conversion of any kind. It says nothing about what any school, college, teacher, syllabus, examination board or district does, requires or computes, and it carries no transcript, class rank, honour roll, probation, progression, graduation, admission, scholarship or eligibility statement. It never says that a mark is good, enough, passing, safe or at risk. It gives no study, revision, tutoring, effort or motivation advice and makes no claim about what anybody can or should achieve. It prints no verdict, colour, flag, star or rank, and it compares nobody with anybody.

CThe course sheet itself

A row for each piece of work, sitting inside the block of the category you put it in, with each block footed on its own marked work and the weight you typed beside it. A row with points possible and no score yet shows a dash and enters no total, which is why a block can have points possible against it and still have no percentage.

DEach target, and what the outstanding weight must carry

For each target you type, the percentage the weight still outstanding would have to carry for the course to land there. It is solved on the outstanding weight alone and it holds every category already marked at the percentage it stands at now, so a piece of work still unmarked inside a marked category does not move it. It is arithmetic on the figures you typed and it is not a prediction.

EWhat this sheet is holding back, and what it read

Every sentence here names a state this sheet keeps apart. None of them is an error, none of them is about any person, and none of them is advice.

One of the categories carries work that is assigned and not yet scored, so its weight is outstanding and not present, and no percentage prints for it.

FThe four things, the words, and how the figures are read

The four things this page tells apart
Each category's own percentage, taken as that category's points earned over that category's points possible and never as the average of its rows. The course mark so far, weighted by the weights you typed and divided by the weight actually present rather than by 100. The weight still outstanding, named as its own figure. And the percentage that outstanding weight must carry to land on each target you type. Everything else on this page is a view of the figures you typed.
A piece of work, and when it is marked
One row. It is marked pieces of work that this sheet totals, and a row is marked when and only when it carries a points possible figure above 0 and a points earned figure typed against it. A typed 0 earned is marked. A blank score is not, and an unmarked row enters no total anywhere on the sheet, so it moves no percentage and no mark. A figure outside the range the control offers is read as not typed, in either direction, and is never pulled to the nearest figure the control offers.
A category's percentage
That category's points earned added up over that category's points possible added up, across its marked rows and nothing else, which is not the same as the average of its rows' percentages and is why this sheet foots the points rather than averaging the percentages. A category holding no marked row has no percentage at all and this page says so in its own words instead of printing 0.0%, whether nothing is possible against it yet or its work is assigned with a points possible figure and no score typed.
The weight present, and the weight outstanding
The weight present is the total of the weights you typed against the categories that hold at least one marked row. The weight outstanding is every weight you typed less that, so it is the total of the weights of exactly the categories with nothing marked in them. Both are printed in the percentage points you typed.
The course mark so far
Each marked category's percentage multiplied by the weight you typed against it, added up, and divided by the weight actually present. It is divided by the weight present and never by 100, so a course with half its weight still outstanding reads as the mark on the half that is marked, and where no weight is present at all no figure prints and the page prints its own words instead.
What the weights are, and what happens when they do not come to 100
Yours, off your own syllabus. This page supplies no weight, defaults to none and assumes nothing. Where the weights you typed come to something other than 100 the page states your own total plainly and scales nothing, and every figure on the sheet is solved on that total, so a sheet whose weights come to 85 or to 130 is footed as typed.
The percentage the outstanding weight must carry
Your target multiplied by the total of every weight you typed, less the weighted total already marked, divided by the weight still outstanding. It rests on your own typed total and never on an assumed 100. It may legitimately come out above 100, which means the outstanding weight would have to carry more than full marks, and the page prints that figure rather than hiding it. Where the arithmetic has no positive figure to give the page says the target is already reached at the weight marked so far, and where there is no outstanding weight to carry anything it says so instead.
What is held back, and when
The course mark prints no figure while no weight is present, which is every sheet where no category holding marked work carries a weight, whether that is because nothing is marked anywhere or because the weights beside the work that is marked are blank or typed as nothing. A category with no marked row prints no percentage. A row with no score prints a dash. A target already reached, and a target no remaining weight can carry, print the page's own words in place of a figure. While any of those is live the warning in the glance says which, in front of the figures it qualifies, and the weight figures beside the mark carry the words saying what work they stand on.
A label, and nothing else
A piece of work and a category are labelled, not named. Up to forty characters each, blank allowed, and one word is enough. This page asks for no student name, no teacher, no school, no class, no course code, no student number, no date of birth and no date of any kind, and the workbook beside it asks for none of them either.
Nothing is stored and nothing is sent
No figure you type is stored in this browser or anywhere else, nothing is sent, and no account is asked for. The figures are gone when the tab closes, which is why there is a workbook beside this page for anybody who needs the sheet to last.
What is not supplied, and what that costs this page
No category, no weight, no target and no scale. This page prints percentages and nothing else, and it supplies no letter, no band, no pass mark and no curve, because institutions differ about what a percentage is worth, and about rounding, and a page that published one answer would be wrong for somebody on the day it was written. What it supplies instead is the arithmetic, with every figure it rests on printed beside it.

GThe decisions this page does not make

Each of these is yours. None of them is decided here, and no option set out here is recommended.

What counts as one category

This page publishes no category list. Whether your quizzes and your labs are one category or two, and whether a dropped lowest score leaves a row off the sheet or on it, is written on your own syllabus and not here.

What the weights are

Every weight on this sheet is one you typed off your own syllabus. Nothing here recommends a weight, suggests one, or corrects the ones you type, and nothing here is a usual or a typical figure.

What the target is

Yours. This page proposes no target, and it says nothing about whether any target is reasonable, achievable or worth having.

What a percentage is worth

Not decided here, and deliberately so. A letter, a band, a pass mark and a rounding rule vary by institution, by course and by instructor, so this page prints percentages and leaves what they are worth to the people who set them.

Whether an unmarked piece of work belongs on the sheet

Type it with its points possible and no score, and the sheet keeps it visible, enters it in no total, and leaves its category's weight outstanding while nothing else in that category is marked. Leave it off and the sheet cannot know it exists. Both are readings of one course, and the sheet prints the one you chose.

HWhat this page will not do

IThe course mark sheet, as a workbook

The page keeps nothing when the tab closes. The kit is this arithmetic written as a workbook with the formulas left in and no cached figure anywhere. The categories sheet gives every category a label and nothing else, so the workbook asks for no name either. The work sheet is the record, one row an entry, where you type a piece of work with its points earned, its points possible and the category it sits in, a weight row for each category you were given, and a target row for each percentage you want to finish at. Along each row the sheet works out whether that piece of work is marked and what percentage it came to, and a Check cell says what the row is still waiting for. Summary gives one row for each category with its own earned, possible, percentage and typed weight, then the course as it stands, then the percentage the outstanding weight must carry for each target you typed. Check works the Summary's figures a second time by routes of their own, prints the difference and says yes or NO beside it. Read me says what the book is, which of the five sheets is which, and the fingerprint of the spec it was built from. The second file is a short PDF with the one rule the sheet applies, the six cases the page holds back in words and what the workbook prints in each, and the decisions the arithmetic cannot make for you. Neither file prints a letter grade, a scale or a money figure of any kind. The work sheet ships with ten example rows so the arithmetic shows before you have typed anything, and they are there to be written over.
